In this session, you will learn what it means to develop a comprehensive workforce plan with a focus on the final step of the process – the action plan. A thriving and engaged workforce requires visionary leaders who invest in their staff and understand how to take the components of their workforce plan and put it into action. Although the process and implementation may seem costly, but turnover creates a much greater loss for health centers. A holistic view of workforce planning is an essential component of this process, and it must include strategies in retention, recruitment, health professions education and training (HP-ET), and strategic planning all within a justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) lens. This session will prepare health centers to get on a pathway to address current workforce challenges and build a more stable and vibrant workforce through compensation design. Since the impact of COVID-19, the labor market has changed dramatically, leaving many health centers with critical staffing recruitment and retention challenges. Health centers must rapidly adapt compensation approaches to attract and retain talent. Participants will learn the driving factors of this rapidly changing employee market and understand how to navigate the fundamental shifts that will continue to shape workforce recruitment and retention for the long term.

This session will explore how to build leaders at all levels within the organization. Leadership can come in the form of a formal title or can be seen at any level in the organization. Understanding what differentiates the organization from others is the first step to understanding what will be valued in leaders within the organization. Additionally, we will walk through a tool to better understand your current team and where to focus to build better relationships with them and where they should focus to build their leadership skills. Lastly, we will walk through creating an action plan specific to developing your direct group of leaders. For the most impact, the learning and tools from this session should be taken back to your organization and integrated at all levels.
